DVCC X Project Connect

DVCC has been chosen as a recipient of one of the many grants given to prevent displacement  in areas with newly built lines as part of Project Connect. 

What is Project Connect?

Project Connect will connect all of Austin to each other, allowing for easier public transportation, and faster routes; by adding new light rail lines and new express lines Austin will now be closer than ever.

How is DVCC Involved?

We at DVCC  with direct funds from the City of Austin, will provide assistance to current home owners in the east Area by tackling down the issues that may affect their current ownership. We will provide assistance in the following manners

Learning From Home

EDUCATION

DVCC will provide the following to at-risk residents:

  • Financial Education

  • Group sessions

  • Education on Tax exemptions

  • What Project Connect will mean to each individual

HELP

DVCC will help homeowners by providing the following resources.

  • Creating and completing Will

  • Asset protection

  • Legal protection against aggressive companies praying on at-risk homeowners

  • Legal assistance to protect property

Dollar Notes

FINANCIAL HELP

DVCC will financially help individuals who are struggling to keep their home.

Eligible homeowners will be able to apply for financial assistance for 

  • Weatherization

  • Accessibility upgrades

  • Back tax dues

  • No actual cash will be given to any resident, DVCC will pay contractors or agencies directly, or will hire contractors directly to provide the necessary services.

HOW DO I QUALIFY?

In order to qualify for assistance from this program you have to meet the following criteria:

  • Must live within 1 mile of the proposed new lines

  • Must be a current homeowner within the designated boundaries provided by DVCC

  • Must attend the designated number of sessions prior to submission of application

  • Must be within 80% of the poverty line (As directed by the city)

  • **Must be a Legal US resident**

HOW CAN I HELP?

DVCC will be providing opportunities for homeowners to become part of the CHA (Community Homeowner Advocates) program

  • **Must be a Legal US resident**

  • Must live within 1 mile of the proposed new lines

  • Must be a current homeowner within the designated boundaries provided by DVCC

  • Must show interest and submit application in person

  • Must be within 80% of the poverty line (As directed by the city)

  • Must attend training required to be approved as part of the program.

  • CHA will be given stipends to help and compensate for their time.

  • Should expect to spend 10+ a week on reach-out, resource guiding, and recruiting.

What if I am not a homeowner?

Not a homeowner? No problem! There are many programs that can help with help protect you from the changes Project connect will bring to many neighborhoods in Austin.
